Most people. anywhere, know little about the plants in their area. Americans in particular are too interested in other things and gardening is not in their lexicon.

The people next door had done a lot of work making their front into a relatively water free zone! After all we live in a rather dry area, a kind of Mediterranean desert. We get about 20 inches a year on the average but we have had just sort of 10 this year.

They sold the house. A very capable young man lives there and didn't like a xeriscape so he dug it all up, even the deck I had built between the sidewalk and the curb. And he planted GRASS!
