Re: Pistacia lentiscus problems?

Nancy:

There are lots of reasons why some plants are hard to find in the nursery trade and not all of those reasons have to do with some inherent problem with the plant.

It may not be easy to propagate nor easy and inexpensive to find seed for propagation.  It may not grow well or quickly enough in a 5-gallon nursery container or it may not be easy to get to look good in such a container.

Or it may be simply fashion.

With that said, I've seen quite a few P. lentiscus trees.  Those near the California coast aren't inspiring specimens.  Those planted in the desert, especially in middle to high desert gardens, look great.

Thanks to all who suggested sources. That the tree is so difficult to find in southern California suggests a second question: is there a problem that makes it undesirable or difficult to grow here?

Hello

Does anyone know where this tree can be purchased? Weâre in southern California but we do mail order too. Thank you.
