When we were in Portugal and Spain last fall, I gave a talk in Farro and in Mallorca.  The topic was, ostensibly, the mediterranean climate, but it was requested that I emphasize California and how we've reacted to these conditions.  For non-Californians (as well as residents) I think this recent short article about Southern California from the MGS Journal might be interesting.
