[medit-plants] Plant ID app

I regularly identify plants for clients, friends, other professionals, and social media groups.  I seem to have a knack and eyes that can see the details required.  I usually enjoy it but it is sometimes burdensome.  Years ago, when I learned that plant ID apps were being developed, I was intrigued, pleased, and dubious.  I've experimented with various types over the years and cannot recommend any.

I just tried PlantSnap on my iPad.  They give you a free trial on less than a handful of images.  Attached is one of the images I used - Salvia 'Hot Lips'.  Yeah, I know, it's unusual, but I was shocked at the results shown at the right of my attachment (NOT EVEN CLOSE!).  Other tries did not yield good results (though less bizarre) and I ended up adding my images and identifications to their database.  Not looking to beta-test their product, I think I will decline using it in the future.

BTW - here is an interesting article about the origin of Salvia 'Hot Lips' written by Richard Turner (a member of this forum):
