[medit-plants] Re: A sweet little unknown flower

Sylvia,
Annies Annuals sells at least the original white, species freesia. Ours are overwhelmed by 20 yr old native festuca. Our hybrid multicoloreds bit the dust years ago, thanks to ground squirrels.

Jeanne, glad you have some from seed! Never seen the pink nectar guides. I just leave the plants and their seeds and cormels grow as is. Our garden is plenty wild, always changing, and plants have a lot of competition so I haven’t noticed many seedlings. However, I have been delighted to see a clump of bird-deposited sparaxis grow steadily in a dry sidewalk strip near our house…from seed or tiny cormels?

Jeanne,  Here in the SF Bay Area these freesias are prolific, as others have said.  The red version takes care of spreading by itself.  I got seed of the pale blue version through the Mediterranean Garden Society seed exchange.  A bit less aggressive and it does return.  Where did you get the white form which I’ve been trying to find for several years.  Saw it once for sale at Filoli in Woodside, CA and didn’t grab it.
