Chrysanthemum Annual

Dear Sue,
Liked your description -"There was an interesting chrysanthemum annual
which I saw near Tijuana and also a whole canyon of it below Santa Barbara
in California. It grew almost 2m high and was guite bushy with yellow
flowers or a yellow and white flower. Does anyone have any ideas from this
vague description".....
The Channel Islands off Santa Barbara are the locality for Coreopsis
gigantea, a coreopsis with a woody stem ca.4-5 feet in some cases. It is
known that gigantism of ordinary plants occurs on islands where there are
no natural predators. Your plant may be this one, which has naturalized on
the mainland along the coast in certain places (Santa Barbara, Santa
Monica, hadn't heard of Tijuana, etc.).
