Is it the "coarse" or the "fine" shreded Redwood bark that is called
"gorilla hair"? I ask because I am using the coarse version (from American
Soil in Berkeley) and it sure doesn't slow down my snails much. Perhaps the
"fine" version works better...or perhaps it depends on the individual snail
population. I hope it is the former as I do like the looks of the fine
stuff.

I can confirm that copper strips work pretty well...well enough that I
routinely use them around the trunks of trees and vines, around the rims of
pots, and as miniature fences around newly-planted things.
