Judy,
We have Leptinella dioica, which according to a reference book (an old
Bailey's) is somewhat similar to L. squalida. Not sure as to hardiness. I
got cuttings from it originally from the UC Davis Arboretum, and they may
know more about its limits. The leaves are about an inch long and 1/3 inch
wide with sort of scalloped, and undulating edges, and are rubbery almost
to the beginning of succulent. The whole plant, leaves and all press
right against the soil. Supposedly it will even stand walking on, but I
don't imagine you want to walk on your troughs.
It is not listed in our catalog yet, mainly because I haven't written the
catalog description yet, and there are lots of plants in line ahead of it.
If you're interested, email me at info@plantstogo.com.
