I second the suggestions to provide flowers for hummingbirds instead
of artifical feeders.
I have regular hummingbird visitors, and I haven't seen a flower that
they DON'T like. This morning I watched them work over an Abutilon
(the "chinese lantern type") and the Hibiscus (wide flat flowers).
On the Chinese Lantern Abutilon, they usually poke their beak in the
top of the flower, just under the sepals. Rarely do they go "up from
the bottom", tho I have seen them do that.
In addition to the obvious Salvias, Penstemons, Epilobium, they like
Passion flowers, orange blossoms, milkweed, and occasionally a rose.
One frequently sits on the telephone wire that goes across the yard
on "guard duty".
