Well, we found it!! It is the A. gratissima with the slight twist of
having a more rounded panicle, not quite as pointed as seen in the
books.
We found it in A Field Guide to Wild Flowers, Trees and Shrubs of Texas
by Delena Tull and George Oxford Miller. This book gives it the common
name of Bee Brush. :-) Other common names are Quebradora and
Oreganillo.
The Alyosia that I just bought is an A. urigata, BTW.
Thank you all so much for the help in identifying this plant.
