I have just bought a book that excites me. I've given it to my
brother-in-law from California who has just bought a hectare on a
Sicilian hilltop, but I told him I wanted to read it first.
It is Venzano, a Scented Garden in Tuscany by Stephanie Donaldson,
published this year by Trafalgar Square Publishing. I bought the
last copy at Powells Books in Portland. $29.95 (U.S.)
Two Australians, Don Leevers and Lindsay Megarrity have developed a
nursery in a former Augustinian monastery. The pictures are gorgeous
and the style is chatty and honest. Stephanie writes about pets,
neighbours, clients and gardeners, as well as the gardens and plants.
A friend of mine just came back from Tuscany. She tried to find
directions to Venzano, but couldn't. I will add information from the
book, in case anyone else is interested in visiting.
