Hi,
Many thanks for all the advice.  I should have stated that the palm trunk is
the squat, sturdy type and therefore is probably W. filifera.  It is sited
on top of a bank with good drainage.  The baby (pup?) seems to be attached
at the base of the parent.  I will wait until April/May and investigate
further.

Bi the way, the weather has improved and it is time to get the gardening
boots again.
