It can be variable here in Marina, where it is foggy
in summer and cool in general year round. It IS
however dry and the soil they grow in is rather poor
(pure sand) so that may be part of why it is variable
here. I've seen trees that have turned into rather
nice specimens. There's one growing at an old colonial
garden here that hasn't broken apart and is still
sound (they're taking it down because it doesn't fit
in with the garden - Spanish era). There are others
i've seen elsewhere that haven't fallen apart in
storms either.

But, there are also those which seem to break apart in
each storm, such as one that went from a rather nice
tree to climb to a broken, splintered trunk with few
remnant branches.

There are also a few on my school's campus that seem
to be declining, and have a few living branches with
many dead ones (and covered in lichen). These are not
more than 30 feet tall and not very big either.
