Re:Old Desert to Jungle

I would highly recommend a visit to this nursery, Gary
has some of the most interesting plants in the LA
area, in my opinion, and has been responsible for many
new plant introductions to various other nurseries
over the years, as he is always on the lookout for n
ew garden worthy plants in his travels around the
world.  I have had the good fortune to join him on
several collecting trips to Mexico, and was fascinated
by the nursery he also runs in the state of Veracruz
which is the source of alot of the tropicals he brings
in regularly.  Unfortunately, the Montebello retail
outlet is rather small, and doesn't begin to hint at
the wide selection of plants that he is actually
growing.  I can't say if this is still the case since
he reopened with the new manager, but the Lakeview
Terrace location is larger, and gives perhaps a better
idea of more of the plants he is growing.

I never pass up a chance to see what Gary has most
recently started growing, or fail to fill up with a
truck full of plants to bring home.  Too bad he
doesn't ship out of the area...
