There is an interesting article at http://www.ccc.govt.nz/parks/TheEnvironment/ MaytenusBoariaCCCECO0206.asp discussing the potential weediness of the Mayten tree. Moira particularly would be interested.
Originally only male trees were in the trade, so mine, being quite old is probably one of those. That would explain why I have never seen a seedling.
