Probaby equally unsuited to northern California as Bauhinia - does anyone happen to know the pink-flowered tree, lining the esplanade in Cartagena, Columbia, blooming in November? I saw them there about 25 years ago, when it was safe for americans to go to Columbia (only a small guerrilla war going on at the time), planted along the road along the coast. They seemed to be legumes, and definitley not orange or red. They may no longer be there - I looked for web images of Cartagena, and saw no flowering trees, just hundreds of high-rises growing in what used to be an out of the way port.
