Title: Re: Trees for Medit. area
Hi Nan,
My sister-in-law and her husband had a white flowering jacaranda at
their home on Sierra Vista in La Mesa (this is inland from San Diego
and is hotter and drier than the nearby coastal communities for those
of you in other parts of the world). It bloomed well and I collected
seed for several years, but was unable to germinate it successfully here
in Berkeley. I came to believe that the seeds must be sterile because
the tree was 1)far out of its naturally warm habitat, or 2) didn't
have the proper pollinator (is it wind pollinated?).
What do you think?
Elly Bade
I'm trying to think of where I've seen white jacaranda...
I wonder whether it was white Robinia - it looks something like a
white jacaranda ....
I bet Joan DeFato can tell us. Joan, what do you
think?
Nan
