Anyone familiar with Bauhinia hookerii? I just encountered a photo on-line and it looks darn cool. Supposedly from NE Australia. What is the climate in that part of the country?
NanCoastal areas of NE Australia are pretty well tropical, but the common name of this Buhinia is Mountain Ebony which implies it comes from one of the higher inland areas and apparently it will take US zone 9a withstanding temps down to 20° F. An Australian list suggests it is also pretty drought resistant.
I used to be familiar with several species of Bauhinia when we lived on Kenya, but haven't encountered any in NZ, though I discovered a few nurseries in our far north do stock it. From a pic. I found it looks extremely pretty.
