RE: squim poppies


Have a picture, or a description? If it's a poppy and it's red, the genus almost certainly Papaver (Roemeria is also red but I doubt it's naturalized in Sequim!). If it's 2-3 feet tall and any shade of true red, with or without black spots at the base of the petals, it's probably some form of P. rhoeas (Corn poppy), which is extremely variable and does naturalize. If it's more orangeish and the pods are 2-3 times as long as they are wide, it would probably be P. dubium; I've seen it naturalized as well.
