Tom Chester's analysis is a gold mine of information: is there any corroboration from fire professionals (or insurance adjusters) re. siting houses on SW slopes as opposed to NE slopes?

It was also good to hear experiences from Australia.  On the same subject, does anyone have any information on fire strategies from southern Europe?  Fires devastated Greece this past summer, and did a number on southern France a couple years ago.  As sedentary civilization has been a going concern in those parts for the last 2500 years or so, do they have anything to teach us here in the newest part of the New World?
