RE: observation about cistus

Dear Nan

I had 2 die this year in September.  Cistus popufolius and C.laurifolius . I made the mistake of planting them in April and I am sure I over watered them to get them through the summer.    I thought  I was the only person in the world who could kill a Cistus.!  I have re-planted this month and I am watching the water. ....   Although, yours do sound like that some of them might have had 'bound' roots. I have had this with a number of plants purchased here in Spain..Echium for example.   Now, I buy only plants when I can from Olivier Fillippi in France who specialises in growing his plants in long pots so the root system is strong and deep.

Hope you are ok over there..it looks terrible. As well as the homes obviously, the destruction to the landscape looks horrendous....

Subject: observation about cistus

I've had the oddest thing with Cistus this year.  I've used Cistus in five or six gardens in about a 30 mile radius of my garden and in my garden too.  In each one, I planted them in groups of three.  Between September and October this year, one of each trio has died.  I'd assume it was overwatering but I barely water my garden.

Doesn't this seem odd?  Any suggestions?

Nan
