Francisco--
--Montpelier has a historic botanical garden with many mediterranean plants.
Associated for centuries with the medical school it also has a priceless
collection of specimens and manuscripts. A great effort is being made in
recent years, depite a lack of funds, to restore the plantings an preserve
the collections.
--Nimes also has an important public garden, more interesting for its layout
and hardscape that for the variety of plants, but certainly worth a visit.
--In a way, the most interesting garden of all (certainly from our point of
view) is the garden attached to Olivier Filippi's nursery in Meze, south of
Montpelier.

Subject: Gardens to visit in Southern France
Hello all,
This weekend I will be visiting some friends in Southern France. If we
have time and the weather is nice, we want to visit a public garden (or a
private one open to the public). It should be located in the Avignon-Aix
en Provence-Marseille axis as we don´t want to do too much driving. I am
thinking of a park or garden with mostly Mediterranean natives, few
species diversity and more on the formal side, but where most plants are
not clipped and there is not too much hardscape.
Any ideas that fit this bill?
Many thanks.
