Hi David: I have been slow to respond to your question about the weevil, because there has been a lot on my plate since I started my new job in San Joaquin County November 1. I do feel hopeful that we will be more successful at stopping it than
the EU. I think we have a couple of things in our favor: early detection, and a financial incentive to isolate and eliminate. I think the experiences of other countries in waiting too long has caused those in Southern California in a position to act to do
so with speed and determination. I really think the lack of attention is due to its fairly recent discovery. Horticultural news isn’t very sexy unless it has to do with marijuana or something like that! I actually got on the local evening news my first
day on the job, because they wanted an agricultural perspective on PROP. 19! Karrie Reid Environmental Horticulture Advisor UC Cooperative Extension, San Joaquin County 2101 Earhart Ave., Ste 200 Stockton, CA 95206 (209) 953-6109 fax: (209) 953-6128 |
