Re: Ficus elastica pruning

Ficus carica can take just about any amount of pruning you want to give it.
If you really want to reduce its size, you can cut it virtually to the
ground, then thin out the mass of new shoots that will sprout next year
untill you have the number of trunks you want. Or you can just cut off the
limbs you want to get rid of, and have fewer new shoots to deal with.

You do NOT need to seal the cuts.

If you decide to kill the tree totally, you should dig up the central root
mass that is just below where the trunk enters the ground. The remaining
root fragments will NOT re-grow after the central part is removed.
