I was interested in Rich's comments about the difficulty of
germinating this salvia. For interested read incredulous. Here it
germinates like cress (100% germination in a couple of weeks, no
special treatment, gritty compost, 65F or so, stand well back) and
usually relieves me of the job of sowing it by self-sowing cheerfully
into our gravel paths. Is this a question of climate - and one of the
few occasions when our all-year-round damp and lack of real heat is a
benefit (to a plant if not to the person planting it)?

Solway Coast, Cumbria, UK, summer max low 80sF if lucky, winter
minimum 26F or so and often not so low, and wet and wet and wet.
