Well from seeing natice ceanothus' in Ft ord i can really only say what
kinds of soils and water they get (i dont have any myself).
Anyways they tend to grow in any thing from pure sand to eroded
sandstone (there, the soils is finer than the soil at the beach, often
becoming mud, rather than just wet sand). They take anything from lots
of fog on the coast, to hot inland sun further inland. THey go about
8-9 months without rain, and i have never seen them growing near the
vernal pools. They never seem to have any diseases that afflict them
(that i can tell), and i have never seen any bugs that attack them.
