Re: New potential weed
Barry,
A. julibrissin is definitely a weed in our area. It is naturalizing
pretty prolifically in the riparian zone especially along the Sacramento
River in Redding, but also in many of the small tributaries where there
is consistent moisture relatively near the surface. I suppose it is
forming a new immigrant (plant) community with Nerium oleander, Acacia
baileyana, Robinia pseudoacacia, Ailanthus altissima and Spartium
junceum. The big losers appear to be Populus fremontii and Quercus
lobata. It's amazing to see just how totally the plant community is
changing (and how fast!) with the spread of these exotics.
