Pampas grass (Cortaderia spp) is a bad weed in the bush here in NSW too,
especially in the coastal heathlands around Sydney (Royal National Park). I
don't know how serious they are about eradicating it; it is on the noxious
weed list (W2 -- "must be fully and continually destroyed"), but that
doesn't necessarily mean a thing -- the same is true of lantana and I've
never noticed any public body (local council, railways, or even Nat Park
people) bothering to do anything about the masses of that on their land.
It's certainly hard work to get rid of pampas grass by digging it out, but
presumably roundup would be effective if appropriately applied.
