Re: New potential weed

The October issue of Fremontia is a special issue on weeds and eradication
programs in California. Pampas grass is the "cover girl." Although the
journal is specific to the state, those in similar climates should find
something useful and informative in it. The mention of Roundup reminded me of
an article in this issue that deals with the role of herbicides in preserving
biodiversity. There's a photo of a bluff top at Horseshoe Cove in Bodega
Marine Reserve that had been a monoculture of ice plant before being sprayed
with glyphosate. The photo shows cream cups, California poppy, brownie
thistle, and California brome, all of which regenerated from the indigenous
seedbank after treatment.
