Hi everyone
Glad to be back home after two really happy, hectic
weeks in England. I know that the threads are long gone, but I must tell
you how lovely the autumn colours were. We travelled the length of the
Eastern side of the UK , mostly on motorways. They were a revelation, Having
been planted up with trees and large shrubs when they were built they now
provide a colourful trip in late October; reds, yellows, oranges and deep
purples abounded. We also spent a couple of days in Sussex where because the
weather was mild we could walk along the lanes which are now ankle deep with
fallen leaves. A particular love of mine in that county are its lanes which are
so narrow that the trees form a tunnel to walk though. However I am more than
willing to give up the colourful autumn display in order to have our frost free
gardening here in Crete.
Also found an enormous nursery with a tremendous
selection of plants, climbers and bulbs.I found Passiflora exoniensis (high on
my list of wants) a lovely large pendant flowered Passiflora and after your
encouraging remarks about Clematis armandii Appleblossom I managed to
find a good specimen which I am going to try in a tub around the front door.
Also some new Amaryllis hybs with much smaller flowers than usual
which grow well here in the border. Does anyone else find bulbs
as easy and rewarding to grow as we do?
looking forward to reading any archived material.
regards Janet
