I can't help either with an Aloe site but feel compelled to comment
that plants listed in books are likely to be never seen or heard of
outside Sth Africa. Maybe people just aren't looking in the right
places. Have you tried the annual shows and plant sales of local
cacti and succulent societies, or local specialist cacti and
succulent nurseries. Many aloes, even the biggest ones, make
very attractive pot specimens (sometime in their juvenile stages
such as Aloe ferox) and are sold as indoor or pot plants by green
house companies. The miniature species and hybrids, of which
there are dozens emanating from Japan and Germany, are also
very attractive as pot plants for windowsills and greenhouses. I'd be
very surprised if these were not available somewhere in the USA or
Europe - they certainly find their way down under to the remoter
parts of Australia and even to NZ.
