The secret of germinating Gloriosa seeds seems to be warmth (minimum 80F
or 27C) and constant moisture. I've germinated them successfully by
sowing the seeds in peatlite/John Innes compost - covered to a depth of a
few mm - in a plastic pot with bottom drainage holes set in a pan of
water so that the peatlite mixture stays constantly wet. The least drying
of the seeds after being so sown is invariably fatal. Easier to propagate
from offsets or by division of the tubers.
