what does well where

Further to Laura's comments on plants in England:

When I go to California, I see a range of plants - some from colder
climates, and some from warmer. In San Diego, for instance, I saw
plants, especially right along the shore, that I associate with
Hawaii. I also saw a lot of daylilies and other plants that will
grow on the prairies.

I allow myself to be fooled: yow! since they can grow Vestia foetida,
and so can I, then, if they can grow Solandra grandiflora, I should
be able to grow that one, too. Well, not totally fooled. I might buy
the plant down there, but before I plant it outside, I check it out
in my trusted source of allowable minimum temperatures: Indoor and
Greenhouse Plants by Phillips and Rix. Minimum 5C, so inside it goes.
