I just re-checked the documentation for all variants of this common worm
and there are none with a script of less than 200 lines. A message size
limit also has the advantage of stopping other types of letter-bombs such
as the accidental sending of a digest back to the list. A size limit also
accommodates those less-than-savvy mail clients and/or servers that tend to
either bounce larger messages or to put the excess into an attachment anyway.
Most important though is that Medit-Plants could use one or two kind and
appreciative folks who are willing to spend some time helping the
listowner. If you have basic skills at reading expanded message headers
aka "geek headers" and a familiarity with filters in your mail system, I am
probably not being presumptuous in guessing that Sean would love someone to
volunteer to take care of error messages, fondly called "bouncys" by those
of us who decipher and deal with them daily. A corresponding
secretary/listowner who would be willing to handle some of the routine mail
such as the "I am going on vacation...how do I..." queries would give Sean
much-deserved relief. Neither of these tasks need take much time. A file
of templates or form letters works quite well in most instances.
I hope that I am not too high up on a soap-box here; it is just that
Medit-Plants is such a wonderful list! I love it and would hate to see it
have to change its character.
Cheers, Louise
