I hope the other list members will forgive me for indulging in a "second
round" inspired by this remark, but this is undoubtedly one of my
compelling reasons also for being besotted by gardening.
When we came home the other night from a very pleasant reunion dinner
for Tony's gliding club we had no sooner stepped from the car than
wafting across fifty feet of garden to greet us was the most glorious
scent emanating from the Rhododendron formosanum perched on the bank
close to our front door. It is dazzlingly beautiful by day at present
(and hopefully for about the next three weeks) being completely
smothered in pure white blossom, but at night it is something else and
worth waiting most of each year to enjoy again..
