Aaah,smells

To Doobieous,
Okay, okay, I give up.  Everyone isn't going to like gardenias, or roses (my husband cannot stand rose colognes), or anything else.  I once met a woman who grew up on a mango farm in Mexico, who could not remove from her mind the memory of the cloying smell of fallen, rotting mangoes, and could not understand how I could lift a ripe one to my nose and sigh with joy. (I'm certain they will be on the menu at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb!)  And I'm glad to hear the fetids have been relegated to a remote corner of the garden!
As to tuberoses, I live in a more interior, definitely hotter part of California, and my tuberoses are in a mostly shady,north-facing, mulched bed that provides the moisture they need.  Being up by the front of the house where my dryer vents, they have survived the winters admirably, and really are a late summer joy.
Wishing I were in Bali,
Karrie Reid
