Brugscents

I share Liz's and Moira's fondness for the sweet night scent of Brugmansias.  It is a warm, early fall here in the low foothills, and my yellow Brugmansia is just beginning to wane in its bloom flush.  It has a lovely scent, but not nearly as strong as the double white, which is only now putting on its immature blossoms.  It is positively heavenly at night, and the cooler the better.  It actually will bloom right up till Christmas if given enough fertilizer, and the blooms hold well in a squat vase filled with pine sprigs, making a lovely impression of white bells in pine.  I also have a large peach Brugmansia which just finished blooming.  Its blooms also only give off fragrance when it cools off.  I'm guessing these beauties are moth-pollinated.
