Although I have sheared cistus VERY LIGHTLY right during or after bloom, you
will be sorry if you prune into anything at all woody. Forever after you
will look at that wood through the hole you made. I have also completely cut
off (back to the base within the shrub) overly long branches. However if
this leaves a hole, it will always be there! :-(
