RE: California Native Grass Lawns

Thank you for the great information.  I'm not going to plant the needle grasses
now with the feedback from the group.  I hope to get some other Melicas to try.
Larner's was out of the beautiful M. torreyana in April when we stopped in.  We
do have some Festuca californica, but it's larger so we can put that alongside
the meadow.  We also have some Gilia capitata and Eschscholzia caespitosa seed
that should brighten the area.

I'll start the seeds in flats in a cold frame.  We only have small seed packets
so growing plugs seem to be the better way to go for the small area.  Using
carexes is also very appealing.  We use them in our pond so I tend to think of
them as water plants not meadow plants.  Something to explore.  Thanks again.
