Re: Franklinia in Bay Area?

I'm pretty sure it's a Franklinia on Claremont Ave near Telegraph in Oakland's Temescal district, and, now that I think of it, there's quite a healthy one in the front garden of the Maybeck house at Derby and Hillegass in Berkeley. (for our Australian, Kiwi, European etc members, these are locations near San Francisco. Sunset zone 16/17 depending on whether the sun's out)

Does anyone have any experience with growing Franklinia altamaha in the Bay Area, in areas with some fog? It is listed in Sunset as being adapted to zones 14 to 17, but I have not seen one in this region myself.
