Many thanks for the suggestions.
Yesterday it was 35C and the wind that was trying
to take the roof off was coming from the mouth of hell so I decided not to try
any summer planting. It's only October after all. What will January be like? One
can only dread, especially as we are being told that this is going to be the
worst fire season ever. I decided that it might not be a good time to plant but
a great time to kill weeds.
This morning, armed with something that will make
the weeds suffer, I went to a part of the property that was burnt out about five
years ago. My husband 'parked' some peppermint gums there, after the fire,
because he was 'sick of seeing them suffering in the pots around the house'. We
have both ignored the patch since then although we have seen the gums rising. I
assumed that it would be covered in weeds. It was covered in wild flowers. Not
big meadows of wild flowers that I see pictures of from Europe and America but a
carpet of tiny rice flowers and pea flowers mostly with the occasional ground
orchid.
Yesterday nature was a bitch. Today this gift. I
think I will go ahead with some summer planting trying all the suggestions and
will keep a tally of my percentages.
Thanks again
Margaret Healey
