Re: Summer planting

Forgive me if I question the premise of this question,
but there appears to be a major something being left
unsaid?  Are you requesting information on which
plants can be planted out without further care under
your summer conditions?  Is it more normal to be
planting out tube liners in fall to take advantage of
fall and winter rains and cooler conditions? Do you
typically get rain year round or mostly in spring/fall
in your part of Victoria?

Victoria is not a mediterannean climate zone within
Australia, so the adage to plant out in fall to take
advantage of fall/winter rains probably doesn't apply.
 I would assume that spring and summer rains are also
not sufficient to reliably establish young plants
without further watering by hand or hose.  Here in
California it is certainly possible to plant at any
season if one is willing to supply water as needed. 
As containers kept on hand will also need regular
watering, and will dry out even faster when root bound
in small pots, it sounds as if your choices are to
lose your crop by doing nothing, pot them up into
larger containers and wait to plant until local
conditions are more favorable to planting, or be
willing to hand water or supply automatic irriation to
keep new plantings alive until better established and
able to survive on natural rainfall.  If you have the
option of growing on, and protecting from sun and
wind, and installing an automatic irrigation system
for grouped plants, as well as repot into larger
sizes, this may be more efficient of water and labor.
