In my opinion that is just lightning damage. Looks
like the typical scar lightning will leave on a trunk. Not necessarily it has to
leave burnt marks. You say you've had thunderstorms lately, so there you have
it.
Not much to do about it, some trees may live
without many problems, others may decline fast.
