RE: fig trees

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe fig’s only really need pruning to cut out dead wood, crossing branches, and to shape to meet your needs and walking patterns (i.e. low branches if along a path or by a patio.)  The biggest fruit set is on new growth, so you could get away with pruning as you like this fall, but I wouldn’t go too crazy or you’ll sacrifice fruit next year.

Subject: fig trees

Hello!

This may be a more appropriate for a fruit tree list, but thought many of you out there would have experience with figs.  I think I have either a brown turkey or violette.  My tree definitely needs to be pruned and would love any advice you may have.

The tree is at least 20', southern exposure, next to the house, and I live in Seattle.

Much thanks in advance!
Bridget
