Fig trees are such great experiments in pruning. We've had a Brown Turkey
fig between our house and next door for at least ten years. The tree is
still only about 10 feet tall when I forget to prune it. The truck is at
least 8" across. We get lots of figs every year but I will admit that the
breba (early summer) crop is limited due to pruning.
I prune after the leaves fall in the fall and again in the early summer/late
spring to keep the size down for easy picking. We drape a bird net over the
top of the tree to keep down bird snacking and it works very well. We
harvest at least six dozen or more figs each year for the two of us. That
works very well.
