I believe leucodendron argenteum is a difficult plant for people with hot
summers. It certainly is for me but I have seen it growing beautifully in
cooler and damper mountainous areas near melbourne.
Myself I don't even grow proteas well because my soil is improved. My
neighbour's clay supports an excellent protea.
Plants that die when watered in summer are a major challenge for me as I
also have a nursery and water most plants all the same which is too much for
some plants.
