In Berkeley where I use to live, Lobelia laxiflora thrived in sunny, dry
locations and even found enough soil in street gutters to be happy. In
fact I consider it a possible pest problem in dry gardens. Perhaps the
best way to control it is to water it and make it unhappy! There is a new
form originating from Strying Arboretum in San Francisco, called Lobelia
laxiflora 'Strybing Form' which has larger, more yellowish flowers and
supposidly is better behaved when it comes to wandering about. Time will
tell...
