We have grown Black Knight for many years; it is an old favourite in UK.
It is tough, long-lived, hardy, and probably has all the other virtues
too. We have always trimmes it back to tidiness in the autumn after
flowering; it has never flowered again much for us after the main flush.
Then we prune it right bak in the spring, almost to the ground; it is
hard to kill, even though it is so decimated. It will grow again to 7
ft (or more) next season.
