Re: Tropical medit gardens? Was: Autumnal musings
Hi Nan
IF - ONLY IF you have the space try Sparmania africanus. Its leaves are
pale green, soft and hairy, heartshaped and a delight on the eye. It is
vigorous, but can be cut hard back at any time. It flowers here throughout
the winter and early spring having clusters of small white flowers filled
with yellow nectar heavy stamens. It is so quick growing that we cut it two
or three times a year to provide mulch or to add to the compost heap. this
keeps it to a managable 7/8ft high x 6ft across.
Also being mostly white it won't clash with your colour schemes.
