C gilliesii doesn't need conservatory treatment in many parts of the
UK Clark since its cold tolerance is greater than that likely to be
experienced here in most years. It does however need a sunny spot in
very well drained soil and is best grown against a south facing wall.
C. pulcherrima will grow in the south, but needs a hot sunny summer to
perform really well. I had a few flowers on mine in August, but it is
only a youngster and needs another year or two to get well
established.
